IT Project Budgeting
The ability to calculate, within a .001% margin of error, capital and five year operating budgets for a multi-million dollar IT project, while “doing your business” in the restroom.
Proven competency giving people permission to reboot stuff.
Proven ability not to breakdown crying every time you hear a senior executive say “I don’t care how you do it, just make these systems talk.”
Proven ability to explain repeatedly, why you need money to purchase additional storage while Google can give away 15 Gb of disk space to every man, woman, and child on the planet.
An ability to suspend proven mathematical principles by showing the addition of a major new computer system will not increase operating costs.
A solid track record showing you can make the system you’re installing look exactly like the one you are replacing by agreeing not to make important people mad by enforcing all those silly workflow changes.
